Unless you’re Diane Keaton, Ditch the Turtlenecks!

neck liftWe have nothing against Diane Keaton. Since her Annie Hall days, she has been a fashion icon in her own right, and she can wear a turtleneck like no one else. That being said, we also have nothing against the turtleneck. This item of clothing can be comforting and fashionable – unless it’s a daily look regardless of the weather. We couldn’t imagine that anyone really wants to wear a turtleneck when it’s 80+ degrees outside. If you’re troubled by the appearance of your neck, you just might find yourself eying such items of clothing, or building a nice little scarf collection. Instead, maybe you should be looking at ways to revive your youthful neck.

The Unique Needs of the Neck
Just like facial aging, the neck will eventually show indications of the passage of time. This area is, in fact, relatively difficult to manage. A lot of the time, it is also simply neglected. We place so much focus on the appearance of the facial skin that we may easily forget that there are needs beneath the chin, too. Most women, and many men, once they turn 40, start to notice telltale problems that scream “I’m getting older!.” The fat beneath the chin and along the jowls isn’t held in place, so it droops like a lazy dog on the sofa. The muscular band that spans across the neck frays and drops into a V-shape rather than a straight line. Oh, and did you know that your neck skin rivals that around your eyes in terms of fragility? It’s like a recipe for aging disaster in a few square inches!

Addressing the Aging Neck
Sadly, there isn’t really a way to prevent the problems that develop just below the face. There are, however, a few things you can do to make sure your neck doesn’t give away your age. Many people are now turning to Botox to ward off the fraying of the platysmal band, which becomes constricted while it simultaneously breaks down. The option that more and more people are turning to is neck lift surgery. Some note that, by lifting the skin on their neck, they are able to put off thoughts of a full face lift for five years or more.
