Jeffrey N James, MD, DDS

Dr. Jeffrey James was born and raised in West Texas in a small town called Plainview. He attended Texas A&M University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. Dr. James attended the Louisiana State University School of Medicine where he earned an M.D. and also completed an internship in General Surgery. He received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Dental Branch while he concurrently worked towards a Masters in Physics from the University of Houston. Dr. James completed a six-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University, during which he served as Academic Chief his 5th year and Chief Resident his last year. He had the privilege of serving on several academic committees including the Search Committee for the Department Head and Chairman of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University. During his residency, Dr. James trained in a broad scope of surgery including bone regeneration procedures, corrective jaw surgery/orthognathic surgery, sleep apnea surgery, facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, head and neck pathology, and temporomandibular joint surgery with a strong focus on cosmetic surgery, trauma surgery, and craniofacial surgery.

Following his residency, Dr. James furthered his education by participating in several fellowship opportunities. He received a certificate in Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery from the University of Oklahoma under the mentorship of Dr. Kevin Smith. He also trained under Dr. Ramon Ruiz at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital to expand his expertise to include cranial vault and front-orbital reconstruction for craniofacial dysmorphologies. He was also mentored by Dr. Erik Nuveen at Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates furthering his competency as a Cosmetic Surgeon.

Dr. James currently holds a full medical and dental license in the states of Louisiana and Oklahoma, as well as a full medical license in Florida. He has authored multiple papers and book chapters in the fields of cosmetic, cleft, craniofacial, and trauma surgery. Following completion of his fellowship training, Dr. James moved back to New Orleans, Louisiana, and founded “The Cleft and Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center.” He participates on the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at the Children’s Hospital in New Orleans as well as practice full scope Facial Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. James also serves as a clinical assistant professor at both the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry. Dr. James currently serves in the United States Air Force Reserves as a clinical professor for the Air Force and Army Maxillofacial Surgery Training Program at Wilford Hall in San Antonio, Texas, where he provides training in the fields of cosmetic, cleft, craniofacial, and maxillofacial surgery to the military residents. Dr. James is Board Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently in the process of obtaining his board certification in Facial Cosmetic Surgery and has gained board eligibility in Facial Cosmetic Surgery as well. He is also a member of several associations including the American Cleft Palate – Craniofacial Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.

In his free time, Dr. James enjoys the great outdoors hunting and fishing and spending time with his wife, Amee.
