Common Signs of Aging and What to do about Them

Signs of AgingFeeling as though you look good is an important aspect of feeling good in general. The fact that we are under more scrutiny today for appearance only feeds the desire that men and women have to hold on to the appearance of youth as they get older. Really, there is no better time to age than today. We have so many options for the correction of common complaints that virtually any age-related cosmetic concern can be successfully addressed. Sometimes, without surgery.

Some of the common changes that affect facial aesthetics include:

  • The appearance of fatigue even in light of inner energy.
  • Lines and creases around the nose and mouth, or down the chin.
  • Flattened cheekbones.
  • Softening has occurred across the jaw line; small pockets may be visible.
  • Neck skin looks thin and loose, or a double-chin has developed.

Most people experience one or more of these concerns at some point. The silver lining is that the changes that occur on the face have historically been the same. This has allowed cosmetic surgeons to develop methods of correcting them. When consulting with patients about facial aging and how to address their particular problems, we listen carefully, while prioritizing the unspoken desire for a natural appearance. Some of the ways that lasting change can be achieved include:

  • Eyelid surgery or a mini face lift. It is often the forehead, brows, and eyes that are most indicative of age. Heavy eyelids and low-lying brows can also make a person appear tired or unfriendly to the extent of affecting how others behave toward them. Blepharoplasty is a common method of restoring youthfulness to the eyes. A mini facelift may address the eyes, as well as the brows and the forehead.
  • Full face lift. When aging has progressed to a point at which most of the abovementioned concerns are present, a full face lift may be the way to go. Tightening connective tissues beneath the skin, and removing excess skin from the surface, brings back a more youthful appearance without looking overly-taut.

Surgery is no longer the only way to reduce the signs of age on the face. Many of our patients achieve the rejuvenation they seek with minimally-invasive injectables. To learn more, call (504) 378-2030.
